Titanium and titanium oxide coatings are deposited as highly adherent thin films at a low temperature using our ion beam assisted deposition (IBAD) process. These nanostructured coatings significantly improve the biocompatibility and functionality of orthopedic implants and are particularly useful for PEEK components. These nanostructured films have been engineered to encourage osteoblast differentiation and proliferation while preventing bacterial attachment and biofilm formation.

The patented Mesoporous TiO2 is a proprietary system developed at N2 Biomedical to enhance the osseo-integrative properties of Titanium-coated PEEK implants by creating a porous TiO2 surface layer with features in the 1 to 50 nm range. The very large surface area of the mesoporous structure can result in preferential osteoblast differentiation.
